Ten people have been confirmed dead following the attack in Dutsen-Wake and Oho Villages in Birnin-Magaji local government area of Zamfara state. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Muhammad Shehu who made the confirmation to the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Wednesday said the bandits attacked the two villages on Tuesday around 10 pm. “We received distress call yesterday that the bandits attacked the area around 10 p.m. We quickly responded by mobilising policemen to the area, led by Area Commander Kaura-Namoda Police Area Command and Divisional Police Officer of Birnin-Magaji Division. “When they arrived the area the bandits had already fled to Rugu forest bordering Zamfara with Katsina state. “They discovered 10 dead bodies killed by the bandits, Seven in Dutsen-Wake and Three in Oho village”, he said. A man was beaten and humiliated after he threw alligator pepper into a grave during a burial. The man was made to jump into the grave to pick up the alligator pepper and forced to eat it. The incident is believed to have occurred in one of the South-eastern states.

A 35-year-old man has been apprehended by security officials in Niger State for dousing hot water on his own mother after previously trying to kill her twice. The gallant operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Niger State Command, have arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Umar, for pouring hot water on his mother in Minna, the state capital. According to PUNCH Metro, Umar was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and cannabis while carrying out the act which caused his mother grievous injuries. It was gathered that the suspect who lived on Okada road with his mother was known for excessive consumption of alcohol. While confessing to his crime, he said; “I actually poured the hot water on her without any genuine reason. I am ok, I don’t regret it.” It was learnt that Umar had attempted to kill his mother twice by hitting her with stones and stabbing her with knife. At least 11 African countries did not vote for Morocco to host the 2026 World Cup. They are: Benin, Guinea, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Botswana, Cape Verde and Lesotho are the other countries. Instead they opted for a joint bid of the United States of America (USA), Mexico and Canada, which eventually won the hosting rights. Morocco would have been the second African nation to host the tournament, after South Africa did in 2010. The result was determined by more than 200 national soccer federations, who cast their ballots to cap FIFA’s annual Congress. The 2026 tournament will feature an expanded field of 48 teams, an increase from the current 32. It will also mark the first time in FIFA’s history, that a three-nation bid has been awarded the showpiece event.

The Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, an umbrella body of Ijaw youths, has condemned the killings of four persons during a military invasion of Oluasiri community in the Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. During a security operation on Thursday, a mother and her six-month-old baby and two other persons were reportedly killed by soldiers. Southern City News reports that the military operation was launched to dislodge suspected militants and sea pirates, allegedly hiding in Oluasiri community. While some security personnel claimed the soldiers opened fire on the community following gunshot attacks from the suspected militants, the indigenes of Oluasiri community denied the claim, insisting that the military attack was unprovoked. Reacting to the killings, the Chairman of IYC, Central Zone, Mr Tare Porri, said the invasion was a provocative action by the military, alleging the development confirmed the suspicion that the military was sectional and biased.
